Frequently asked questions

Civil Liability Insurance for Companies in Angola — your questions

What types of Civil Liability insurance exist for companies?
There are several complementary modalities: Operations CL (damage to third parties during the activity), Professional CL (technical errors), Products CL (damage caused by products sold), Employer's CL (aggravation of workplace accidents due to gross negligence) and D&O (personal protection of directors). HEXA recommends the appropriate combination.
Does my company need Professional CL if it already has Operations CL?
Yes, these are distinct covers. Operations CL covers physical damage to third parties on premises or at works. Professional CL covers damage caused by errors or negligence in technical practice — for example, an engineering design error, a wrong medical diagnosis, or a consulting error. Technical service companies need both.
What is D&O insurance and who should contract it?
D&O (Directors & Officers) personally protects directors and managers against claims arising from decisions made in their role. Without this cover, directors may answer with their personal assets in cases of serious negligence. Critical for large companies, regulated sectors or those with institutional investors.
How to size the insured capital?
The capital should reflect three factors: the size of the company's typical contracts (the maximum probable compensation), international exposure (foreign clients or jurisdictions with higher compensation) and the sector's risk profile. HEXA conducts this analysis technically.
Does the policy cover legal defence costs?
Yes, and this is often the most important component. Even in cases of dismissed claims, lawyer, expert and court costs can easily exceed tens of thousands of dollars. A good policy includes a specific sub-limit for legal defence.
